OUR
MISSION: To promote the Andalusian horse in the United States
by means of showing, breeding and selling imported Spanish horses with
desirable bloodlines, functionality and morphology.
ABOUT
US: Rivas Andalusians was created in 1998. In summer of
that year, we imported three horses from Spain: Desvelo, Inquieto, and
Infante. Infante was sold to Gray Ghost Andalusians in Chillicothe,
Ohio. Desvelo and Inquieto were kept in Greenfield and later sent
to trainers for showing.
The
company was created by Dr. Luis Rivas. Luis
grew up in Granada, Spain, and then moved to the city of Cordoba
to at tend
the Veterinary College at the University of Cordoba. There he studied
under Dr. Juan Aparicio among others (one of the greatest Andalusian horse
judges ever). As a veterinary student he interned at the National Stud
ranchs in Jerez (Yeguada Militar) and Cordoba (II Deposito de Sementales),
and also at the veterinary clinic at The
Royal Andalusian School of the Equestrian Art. Later in life Luis
was awarded a fellowship from the la
Caixa Foundation and moved to Columbus, Ohio to complete a Master
of Science in equine pharmacology and exercise physiology and a residence
in equine medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State
University. Luis is a member of the American
Veterinary Medical Association, the American
Association of Equine Practitioners, and is a diplomate of the American
